Irminsul Futhark Patch

9 cm

This patch is made of an embroidery which is embroidered on a solid material and edged with an embroidered braid.

The Irminsul was an important sanctuary of the Saxons and was destroyed in the

Saxon war by Charlemagne.

The name can be etymologically attributed to irmin = large and sul = column and could therefore mean large column. The Irminsul could have been a portrayal of Yggdrasil, the world ash that carries the 9 worlds of Germanic mythology.

Diameter: about 7cm
